California strawberries are big, red and delicious when you buy them in-season. And if you really want juicy sweet strawberries – picking your own at long-time local Carlsbad Strawberry Company can be a unique and fun experience for adults and kids. This 4th generation farm has been around since the 1950s and even survived a city wide referendum on development of the property in 2016. It’s not the only place to buy strawberries in Carlsbad, just ask any local. They all have a different opinion about who offers the best strawberries. Barring bad weather, there is only one place in town where you can learn firsthand what migrant workers go through while gathering a bucket of strawberries that meet your own personal standards.

When To Go

Strawberry season is usually January – July.

How Much Does It Cost

Currently – it costs $5 to enter the farm, and $12 for a U-Pick bucket. But there is a sunflower maze, several food vendors, and a large area called Bounceland – with a lot of different inflatable bounce “houses” for kids to burn off some energy. So the price is reasonable when you think about the amount of land required and you are less than a mile from the beach.

NOTE: There is also an additional $5 fee to enter the Strawberry Fields if you don’t purchase the $12 U-Pick bucket, so the best way to go is to buy one bucket for each person or split the group into 2 (those that pick, and those that play in Bounceland and the Sunflower maze).

The best part of a visit to the Carlsbad Strawberry Company farm is when you get home with a bucket or multiple buckets of hand-picked strawberries. We usually eat the very best ones, and then make a strawberry pie with the rest.
