Red Chickz – Hot Nashville Comes To Carlsbad

While there are multiple variations such as Chicken & French Toast, Chicken & Waffles and Chicken Tacos – we went for the original chicken sandwich (with comback sauce and coleslaw) and the cauliflower bites – which included sliced bread, pickles and comeback sauce. We added potato wedges as they are highly recommended. They also offer tacos, shrimp, cheese curd  and and potato wedges.

There are 5 different sauces to dip things into and their most favorite on is the Comeback Sauce – which we found to be very tasty. Others are BBQ, Ranch, Chickz Dip and Honey. 

SPICY HEAT LEVEL:  You can choose what one of six spice levels (Cool (no-heat), Glow (mild), Spark (medium), Bonfire (hot), Blaze (extra hot) and Inferno (XX Hot). One online reviewer said the kitchen came out to watch when the Inferno level was ordered, so order accordingly. Inferno is probably really, really hot.

We ordered the chicken sandwich and the cauliflower bites at the spark level (medium). I asked about the Bonfire spice level and the cashier said it contained Ghost Peppers – so I stayed with the Spark level. The spark level chicken wasn’t all that hot so we could of jumped up to Bonfire, but it was juicy and delicious. The cauliflower bites were a tad spicy – but also very good and the spice level still allowed you to taste what you were eating – so great balance there. As the cauliflower can hold a lot more of breading, it makes sense that it would be stronger. 

When I was ordering the cauliflower bites, I was asked if I wanted the 4 or 6 pack, so I chose the option for six as I was thinking “chicken nugget size”. But I was totally amazed at the size of each cauliflower “bite”. Each one was a large flower. Think baseball to softball size each! Needless to say, we could not eat it all – so be careful when ordering the cauliflower bites (which were really tender and delicious). The potato wedges were cooked perfectly and the slaw was yummy – so either makes a perfect companion for any dish.
